The Things You Don’t Know

April 17th, 2008 Posted in Motivational

I have recently gone through some very real experiences in my life. By real, I mean that I really felt it deeply, and it will forever change the way I look at things in life. It is easy to be a thinker and philosopher, but to actually experience the things you think about is a whole another experience altogether.

So… the things you don’t know… what the heck do I mean!

So I’m sitting at my parents place. I’m totally broke off my ass, and I really don’t know what the heck I’m going to do. I know I need to make some money, but I really have no clue how I would be able to pull that off. I knew about people like John Chow who somehow pulled 20k+ a month (now 30K) from a single blog, but that seemed like an impossible task.

I also knew about the more traditional ways to make money. Maybe I could do something around tutoring or get a part time job. But a part of me resented that because I just left a job, and it would upset me that I would be seemingly giving up.

So what was I to do? There was so much uncertainty in my mind.

I then composed my self and thought… Hey! i KNOW I see these people make tons of money online. What in the world do they have that I don’t.

I really thought about this and realized that there wasn’t much other than the fact they were a lot richer than me. They had put the work and effort in while I hadn’t done that.

So that was it. Work and effort. One thing I’ve learned about life and business is that it’s a mess. A complete mess. The people who succeed are the ones who can push through this mess. It is often funny to watch people say successful people were lucky because they can’t see all the mess they had to push through to get there.

Anyway, I had no certainty of my future, but I know what I wanted. I wanted my freedom and that was only going to come with money and having work be unrestricted. By unrestricted I mean that I decide what I do everyday and not some boss which has to do what his boss says which goes all the way to the stinking shareholders (no offense to shareholders).

I wanted it my way and nothing else. If I tell most people that… they will immediately consider me a complete fool and put me in the nutcase category. Most people need a lot of certainty before they start a business. They think you need ton of money and the right connections. Well… those are convincing arguments, but I had already seen people say otherwise, and they were the ones with money in their pockets.

Should I listen to people who are successful or listen to people who weren’t successful but sure had a lot to say?

Well that’s an easy answer when put that way, but the only problem is that most of your friends are probably not where you want to be, and it will impose a social pressure on you to stay within the confines of the group. That is a whole another subject in itself.

So I jumped the gun. I looked at all the different ways I could make money on the internet. Because I focused my mind on finding opportunities within the internet realm, i was discovering small gems that was slowly putting the pieces together.

I finally out of pure randomness found out about a 30 day challenge where a few internet gurus were going to help people make $10 in thirty days. At this point, I really didn’t’ see any other opportunity that was as good as this, so i went ahead and did it.

I really had NO idea what the heck I was getting myself into. I figured that it would be best to get a foundation by some people with real experience and use that as a launching point.

And boy did it pay off. The challenge itself gave me the foundation of what the internet was built on. Keywords… Words in the written form. Sure, the web is moving towards videos and sound, but it is still heavily dominated by words. This is exactly what Google uses to make its BILLIONS of dollars which is completely unreal to me.

I then started to put the pieces together. Ok… So i’ve got this tool that tells me how many people search this “term”…

Ok… how could I something that would some way give the person what they were looking for while also putting money in my pocket.

This was the challenge. It’s an amazing challenge because it makes you really think in other people’s shoes. What the heck does the person who writes “fish oil pills” want? Sure.. many of you guys will say they want to buy some fish oil pills, but is that everybody? Are some people just shopping around or wanting to find more information? Who has the money? Who should I spent time on selling to? The people who are ready to buy? or the people who are just browsing? There are a million questions that can be asked.

Now the issue was that I had to make $10 in 30 days, and what this does is that it FORCES you to take action. One of the biggest dangers in life is that you DON’T take action upon what you learn. If you don’t, the new idea you learned will fade and probably never come back again. What a tragedy…

But I took action because frankly, I love a challenge, and I had been giving the tools to succeed. I worked my heart out to find that one thing that will hit.

To cut this already long post shorter, it took countless hours trying many different angles before I really hit the one that paid in big numbers. I think it was 1 and a half months before I really found the golden gem. But during that time, I felt I was on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic during a terrible storm.

However, I kept pushing and guess what… it paid off JUST like the successful people said it would.

Now… what the hell does this mean to you? If you know you’re capable, and the only thing holding you back is your stinking emotions, then you need to do something about it, NOW. Your emotions are just a reflection of the past which you probably had little control of. This is a whole another subject in itself.

The things you don’t know… just f***ing do it!
