Irrelevant Search Results Can Make You Rich
June 11th, 2008 Posted in Making Money Online, Search Engine Optimization (SEO)If I had to name a single reason for why I was so successful so fast, it is because I discovered keywords with completely outdated and irrelevant search results in Google. Even though the sites in the top 10 were big sites, they were only there because they had one page that was pertaining to an issue a year ago.
The question is if Google is all about what other sites are linking to you (backlinks) and content relevancy, then how can you come out of nowhere to rank in the top 10 so quickly.
It all has to do with the new way Google judges sites. I strongly believe that Google is putting a large emphasis on studying the behavior of searchers and having that be a huge criteria in ranking. It’s not definitely not everything, but with my personal experience, it can mean big bucks for you.
I was fortunate enough to find keywords with completely irrelevant results on Google. The second I made a site that was relevant and targeted to the keyword, Google put me in the testing phase, which usually lasts a 1-2 days.
Google has been known to give decent rankings immediately after your site is indexed, and I believe this is to see if your site just blows the other sites away in terms of how relevant your site is. Google probably studies if the user goes to your site and clicks “Back” quickly. Google might also be using your Google Analytics data as well.
Just recently, Google has even moved a step forward by almost forcing people to accept a new data sharing feature. Google says it will let you benchmark your traffic with other sites, but I think they also have ulterior motives. I don’t think all the features are finished, but all I know is that Google is really pushing it with all sorts of javascript pop ups.
Now this is a double edged sword. On one hand, this is great for people who are writing great content and helping Google fill in gaps where it is delivering poor outdated results. On the other hand, it’s not going to stop spammers because they will try the game how users interact with the site with ugly redirects and what not.
For those just starting out in the SEO Affiliate Marketing game, it’s definitely something to look out for as you might be able to circumvent the traditional 6+ month waiting period many SEO webmasters face after creating new sites.
The rule is pay special attention to how relevant the top 10 is. If you feel you are not getting the right answers for that keyword, then you should definitely go for it (assuming the keyword has traffic).
